FOOD GUIDE TO LVIV

SLAVA UKRAINI !

The Mouth visited Lviv before the catastrophic advances of those that shall not be mentioned, and therefore life was as normal as anyone could have taken for granted. This post shall not be political in nature, it is only meant to guide those willing to risk their safety travelling in the Ukraine to places that we enjoyed when the sun shone without impairment.

Therefore, take everything in context and see it through the eyes of peace. Things change in the blink of an eye, so see this wonderful world while you still can.

LVCHAKIV CEMETERY

If time is on your side then by all means head to the Lychakiv Cemetery and spend a good portion of your morning walking its beautiful/tragic aisles.

BACZEWSKI

By western standards the food prices are most agreeable, by local standards this is considered a bit of a splurge, however the immaculate service and honestly addictive food here makes for repeat visits. If you are of alcoholic desires, order a Bloody Mary and be prepared for some theatre.

GOOGLE MAPS

PRAVDA

A venerable temple to hoppy salvation, imbibers unite and cast out the demons with murky sips.

CHAIKHANA SAMARKANDA

Uzbek food doesn't rate incredibly highly on our ladder of pleasure, however after a couple of weeks in Lviv you start to fantastize over alternative herbs and seasonings. This is the time to descend the stairs into this cosy cellar and give your tongue something new to figure out.

ZOLOTYY KOLOS

A brew pub that makes above average pizzas for the late night crowd. Think local hipsters and not too many tourists.

GOOGLE MAPS

KRYIVKA

"SLAVA UKRAINI". The dungeoun off the main square where you shout a code to enter and the guards will lead you downstairs to the rabbits warren of options. National dishes and huddles of hushed talk are what you come for.

GOOGLE MAPS

NOA

Apart from a slightly odd noodle, the chefs at NOA make a suprisingly good version of Ramen. Another feather in your bow if you are tired of borscht and varenyky.

GOOGLE MAPS

CHOVEN

Locals flock to the outdoor area during a sunny spell, then pour inside when the rain starts. Great atmosphere and food worthy of sniffing out.

MASOCH

The less said about this place, the better. Enter at your own risk.

Istanbul is more than a sludgy cup of gritty coffee. For the past decade the third-wave coffee entrepreneurs have been hard at work creating some cafes that are truly worthy of detours. The Mouth's editor spent months researching and visiting almost every cafe conceivable before coming up with this hand-picked list.

Newer to the specialty coffee world than upstairs neighbour Norway, Copenhagen has come leaps and bounds in the past few years. Still relatively thin on the ground in terms of choice, the few good coffee shops in town do a solid enough job that you can keep them on rotation and not be too fussed about more options, for now.

Trang is an often-overlooked stop on the backpacker route south, most travellers opting to fly into Krabi or Phuket before taking ferries down to Malaysia. To their detriment, they are missing out on one of Southern Thailands most caffeine addicted cities. Home to everything from Modbar espresso houses, pourover hipster cafe's in old houses, and neighborhood caffeine dealers, spending a few days in this sleepy town is an eye-opening experience.

Melaka may not strike most people as a coffee destination, but there are a few geeks hiding in the shadows ready to dazzle you with a Peruvian Geisha, a nice floral Ethiopian pourover or a solid espresso. This guide focuses more on the quality of coffee and not the potential for filming a viral tiktok post in an old shopfront. For those kinda guides you're definitely barking up the wrong tree.

Good coffee is the perfect start to any day, so finding the best coffee in Kuala Lumpur was a task we didn't take lightly. After months of light-headed research here are the places we think serve you the best versions of popular coffee renditions. Some places are for the lazy Sunday coffee with an iPad, others are reserved for true coffee nerds, but with a little guidance you'll be resisting the urge to order a "Grande" and settle for some true local charm instead.
