Mum's Not Home | Hong Kong
SECOND HAND STORES ON SECOND FLOORS
Tucked away above the Shanghai Street grind in Yau Ma Tei, MUM’s NOT HOME is part secret tea room, part retro thrift store, all wrapped in bright psychedelic glee. An artistic sanctuary you need to seek out if the chaos of Kowloon has started to seep in.
You ring a bell, climb the narrow stairs, and suddenly find yourself in a leafy, mismatched wonderland filled with nostalgic clothing, quirky knick-knacks, and floral teas—all curated by creative couple Chow Kong-cheun and Makui Ma.

The seats by the windows are perfect for reading a book, the couches tempt to weed out artists, the vibe is very much acceptance and enigma, and the drinks menu is bold and flavoursome.

There are few places on earth that feel like you're entering someones whacky dream, but Mum's Not Home is one of them. Being hidden as it is means you avoid casual window-shoppers who might ruin the nice ambiance. No lager louts and last time we checked, not too many tiktok videos being live-streamed.

Any visit to Hong Kong should include a pop into this charming cafe, as the punishing tempo of Yau Ma Tei can be assuaged slightly, by a nice cup of tea and a friendly smile.
