KUALA LUMPURS COFFEE SCENE KEEPS DELIVERING
SS2 is known by locals in KL as being one of the most popular food destinations. Spread out across a huge open area are numerous stalls and sellers, but behind that lie gigantic halls offering durian when in season, and further still, for countless blocks to come, are some of the cities best restaurants.
Out in one of the surrounding streets, hidden upstairs, is Bad Artist.
The brainchild of Han, this is one of the newer specialty coffee places that keep popping up in KL, cementing the fact that it is one of Asia's premier destinations for bean-addicts.
Han runs his coffee shop very much like a social gathering, with tables tucked away if you want a quiet conversation with a date or friend, but also larger communal spaces near the counter, where you can sit and discuss your cups flavour profiles with one of the talented baristas, or Han if he's not busy roasting.
The vibe is extremely relaxed and non-snobby, so any question you may have will not be sneered at. Everyone here is here for the coffee, and you feel like you're part of a club, a family, a meeting of the minds.
Clean, minimalist vibes, coffee that is roasted a touch above light-roast, and profiles from Central America, Africa, etc keep you well stocked with choices for repeat visits. They carry both single-origin and blends, so whatever your vibe, they'll deliver.
Anyone on a serious coffee-crawl in KL should head to Bad Artist, order a lovely cup of coffee, and get into a deep conversation with Han. If you're lucky there might be an event, cupping or something community-driven happening.
