18 GRAMS - HELSINKI
LISTENING BLOOM
There are a dime-a-dozen listening bars in Japan. It's an intrinsic part of the culture there to display reverence for the ritual of music and an accompanying beverage. Whether that be alcoholic or not, the purpose is to disconnect from life, sip slowly, listen intently, and speak minimally (if at all).
Combining this idea, though not as strict on the silence preference, 18 Grams in Helsinki is a newcomer on the block, straddling that fine line between ultra sleek, yet retaining a very welcoming vibe.

You come here for the coffee. An added bonus is the vinyl shelf, playing old skool classics and odd jazz to accompany your cup. With a very basic (in a good way) menu, the coffee is predominantly from Finnish roasters, and rotates from time to time.

During our visits, we were lucky enough to hit a Populus cupping, followed by a snowy day sat staring out the window with a filter coffee from Tampere-based, Siemasu.

The atmosphere is perfect for bringing a book or a buddy. The music isn't too loud, the staff are super welcoming and passionate, and the coffee is spot on.
Helsinki has a small scene of great specialty coffee shops, but 18grams has managed to slide in without ruffling any feathers, and made themself feel like they've been there the whole time.
