BEST COPENHAGEN BAKERY TOUR

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST BAKERIES IN COPENHAGEN

Drenched with the deep knowledge that our diets are put on hold for the foreseeable future, we unbuckle our belts and fly headstrong into the Copenhagen winds, preparing our cholesterol hearts for a butter onslaught, peppering our courage to tackle bursts of sugar highs, and reassuring our healthcare providers that the punishment will only be temporary, right?

From the backstreets of Vesterbro, to small corners in Nørrebro, long lines in Østerbro and concrete constructions out at Amager, our editors have taken one for the team and stretched their legs (and jaws) in all directions in order to provide you with an attack plan.

Collected below are the bakeries we liked the most, not all the ones we tried. Our research was done in stages, and over a few years period, making sure that consistency was paramount and we can confidently say you'll get the same or similar product if you turn up tomorrow.

From a bakery known for it's spandauer, another with a killer mushroom roll, a sourdough haven and a breadroll paradise. Everything is recorded with google map links so you can spread them out over a long weekend and then do an immediate salad and salmon diet to compensate.

Velbekommen!

JUNO THE BAKERY

Patience is a virtue, and you'll need a healthy dose of it if you intend to visit Juno. The line is incessant and all emcompassing, but at the end lies a rainbow of delights to placate even the more pale incumbant. Fresh cinnamon rolls designed by someone familiar with nautical knots, pastries with berries and all forms of surprises. It's worth the wait, you're worth the wait.

HART BAGERI

An offshoot of the ever permeating colossus, NOMA, this bakery opened to extreme fanfare, lines round the block and mentions in every publication worth its weight in celtic salt, but the wave has died down a tad, but you can still expect to wait at peak times. You come here for the Spandauer, and the Cardomom roll, they are the best in town by a landslide.

If there is ever a butter shortage in the world, Hart Bageri are to blame. The butter ratios here are bordering on mental illness, but god bless them.

Sommer Canteen

Not exactly in Copenhagen, but if you're headed to Louisiana Art Museum, then pop by here and grab some exceptional baked goods. The bread is phenomenal, just grab a slice with whipped butter and cheese. All the coffee is from Prolog, so your cup will be a warm kiss too.

RONDO

Pity the neighbours who's once quiet weekends are now lined with riotous tourists and locals smoking in line whilst waiting for the baked goods inside. The pastries are good, but the real winner here are the breadrolls (try get the one with leeks & cheese) with butter and cheese (yes, more cheese). Grab them take-away and eat them in the cemetery across the road where you won't be disturbed.

LILLE BAGERI

Out by the mighty Reffen food court, but located a few blocks away, lies Lille Bakery. Their mushroom rolls are a crispy, flaky delight, their coffee isn't too bad and the bread is legit. There is upstairs seating if you're here during the winter, and a few tables out front on the rare days Copenhagen truly dazzles.

ANDERSEN BAKERY

A Japanese twist on traditional Danish baked recipes, this wildly popular bakery one-hundred-meters from the "beach" at Islandsbrygge is worth stopping by on your tour. Try their Almond Croissant, which weigh about three hundred kilos from all the butter and almond filling.
