SHANN CAFE

Despite it technically being an eco-resort, outsiders are welcome to eat in the excellent cafe out front. Their tom yum is one of the best we have tried HANDS DOWN, and the atmosphere is chill and serene.

BOONSITA VEGETARIAN CAFE

Not your typical rice & curry spot, 100% meat-free, and absolutely delicious. Meals are outrageously cheap, freshly cooked and packed with flavour.

KUNDA VEGAN

Perhaps Chiang Rai's most famous vegan establishment, and no wonder because these burgers kick ass. Their trio of homemade hot sauces are less successful, but still add a bit of a bite to your burger if you want some.

TAMACHAT VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT

A dark aircraft hangar looking food court, with the kindest old ladies on earth serving up delicious plant-based meals. The Khao Soi is a bit different to many versions we tried in Thailand, but equally delicious.

OASIS VEGETARIAN

Thankfully they don't play Wonderwall at this fine vegetarian establishment. Tons of options for lunch buffet, fridges full of healthy drinks and a store selling essentials. Great place right by the bus station.

TOFU STALL

Find the tofu stall at the Sirikorn Fruit Market! They are delicious when piping hot, but you'll have to either be early or time it right.

PORWA ORGANIC FARM

This health-food restaurant is not strictly vegan/vegetarian, but has healthy options and a relaxing koi pond to eat by. Worth it even for a cold drink.

AING PATISSERIE

Surprisingly decadent French pastries made with high quality butter, not a stop for vegans, but vegetarians who fancy a flaky munch should flock here!

Newer to the specialty coffee world than upstairs neighbour Norway, Copenhagen has come leaps and bounds in the past few years. Some places are for the lazy Sunday coffee with an iPad, others are reserved for true coffee nerds, but with a little guidance you'll be resisting the urge to order a "Grande" and settle for some true local charm instead.
